Per usual, I absolutely love this piece and am beyond THRILLED to pay to read it. I have weirdly never been an avid music listener while moving about in New York and enjoy the open eared life. Welcome to the club! As the self declared leader of the "New York City Loyalists Club," I excuse your much needed, no explanation needed departure from the city of our dreams. The great thing about New York is that it's not going anywhere anytime soon but you, you are going everywhere, fast. I am raising a Pellegrino to you in honor of your air pod break up, summer of transformation and EuroTour. Cheers to you!
It's so weird right -- how nice it is to walk and just listen to what's around and be entertained with your own thoughts. It's crazy how forgotten a lil' gift like that is. Do you think you'll keep the experiment going?
Girl, SO MANY THINGS I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT after reading this wonderful issue! I've been increasingly disconnecting to connect, too. Brava.
I have to tell you the crazy story of how I found my apartment. I do think it's possible to have an affordable sanctuary with light and space if you're a bit up town...though who knows, maybe my rent will finally go up this year. My life in NYC honestly has been as fast or as slow as I want it since I moved here 4 years ago, I'm curious to hear more about you outgrowing it. Lastly I was a solo farmhand in Tuscany a little while back and traveled around Umbria and elsewhere in Europe and Asia—also on a one-way-ticket! Can't wait for your adventures.
Hmmm.... I have a somewhat resigned relationship with my own AirPods. Given that I share a workspace, and given that I have a life comprised of endless zoom meetings, I have to wear them. But they make me queasy and a little claustrophobic. It used to be that the first thing I did after a day at the office was tear off the pantyhose and toss them across the room. These days, it's more likely to be my AirPods.
I love the pictures you've captured, though, and if this is a side effect of setting aside the AirPods for a little while, we, your paid subscribers are the beneficiaries. They are mind-boggling and totally FABULOUS!
Thanks, too, for sharing your notebooks. It was interesting to see how you "storyboard" your illustrations.
Looking forward to seeing what happens when you arrive in Italy...
Anne!! AW this comment brightened my afternoon. I guess I should clarify: AirPods ARE an incredible invention (especially for remote work). But haha I feel you on tossing the AirPods away and letting those ears b r e a t h e—as they should.
I love the behind the scenes sketches! And the beautiful part about leaving NY is it’s not going anywhere — it’ll be the same delightful, maddening city if you decide to come back!
YES! That's what I keep telling myself: NYC will always be here. If I feel the pull back to its delightful madness, I'll come back. If not, that's okay too!
I'm not going to lie, I'm in a very serious, committed relationship with my AirPods. I admire your stance, though. I'm excited to see and learn about Italy through your lens. I've never been, but one day I definitely would like to go.
As far as the imposter syndrome goes, I'm right there with you. Fortunately, most days it's kind of an old acquaintance that stops by to say hello and then leaves me alone.
Love that approach. Wave hello to the imposter and then let it walk away. I've been reading "The Artist's Way" (have you checked it out?) and she talks a lot about the Inner Censor being your eternal blocker. You silence them with affirmations and action. That's what I'm trying to do most this year!! It's a super powerful book.

Open eared life gals! I love it. Thank you brynnie <3
I was literally trying the Airpod-free experiment this week and I enjoyed my walks sooooooooooo much more. And i love the sketches.
Omg. You did it! Hell yes!

Totally!!! I realized it's a great way to clear your head even more on a walk. Will definitely keep doing it

Ok I need to hear more about how you found this apartment 👀 for future reference..
And yes! to everything – we have a lot to discuss. Lots of similar wavelengths here

I have not read it, but I've heard great things about it. It's on my list! I definitely need to silence that Inner Censor, often.
